PM accepts responsibility in CVC appointment case

After the damaging SC verdict casting aside the appointment of Chief Vigilance Commissioner P.J. Thomas , Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has taken the moral responsibility over the issue.

The prime minister, who is in Jammu, told media persons that he accepts moral responsibility for the episode. Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict, Manmohan said, “I respect the judgement of the Supreme Court and I accept my responsibility.”

The PM’s statement comes after the opposition targeted him over the SC judgement and sought a clarification in the House.

Several opposition parties have been demanding the PM and home minister to resign following the SC verdict.

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the Thomas’s appointment as the CVC was illegal as there was a corruption case pending against him in his home state Kerala.
